I started my first swine 4-H project in 1969 with the guidance and patience of my parents Harold and Rose Ann Rake, Beaver Dam, WI. After the death of my father in 1971, my high school Vo-Ag Instructor Rudy Van Fleet encouraged me to continue raising hogs. He gave me the direction and a vision to pursue the Chester White Breed, which is our trademark today. I respect and give thanks to Rudy for everything he taught me as I continue to teach others through my life experiences.
Rake genetics still continued to grow and expanded in Waunakee, WI. Our facilities are built with open air, using bedding and old-fashioned management. Conventional health and practical animal husbandry produce animals that are hardy and well adaptive. Seed stock has been placed throughout the United States and exported.
Currently eighty sows of four breeds make up the Waunakee Nucleus herd. Several of our affiliate herds produce large groups of crossbred gilts and monitor high standards of health and management practices.
Breeding boars and gilts are available for sale year around. Large groups of boars are available with notice. Show pigs are sold privately and through Spring Sales.
We are strong believers in the 4-H and FFA programs. I have spent over 20 years judging County and State hog shows hoping to teach the next generations about swine. We have also provided classes of boars and gilts for local, state and national University Judging Teams for their learning experiences.
Service and customer satisfaction is our priority. Feel free to call or email us.
